About Neuro-Linguistic-Programming (NLP)
In my practice as a Life and Business coach, I consider Neuro-Linguistic-Programming (NLP) as a methodology to assist clients achieve what they want in all aspects of their life.
And NLP is a very exciting and powerful methodology which has been proven to be unsurpassed in delivering exceptional results in all areas of life.
The actual denomination tells you the story: “Neuro-Linguistic-Programming”:
“Neuro” refers to the neurology, the way the brain learns through our five senses,
“linguistic programming” recognizes that we make sense of what we see, hear, touch, and feel through words, therefore in order to change behaviour, we need to change our thoughts, the words we use to make sense of ”reality”
A most important area of change occurs in the thought patterns:
Here are the three most important steps of the process: state positively what you want, observe your behaviours; that is: your thoughts, your internal dialogue, the way you talk to others, how you imagine yourself to be when you have achieved what you want.
Are these behaviours getting you what you want? If not, what other resources can you add to achieve your outcomes?
Change your thoughts, and you will change your life; through appropriate language, we can direct our behaviours purposefully towards our desired outcomes.
So we use our observations of the body and the language used by the client to find out how the current behaviours help or limit the person in achieving his or her outcomes.
In the case of limiting behaviours, we develop strategies to change those behaviours most appropriate to achieve what you want.
So, you can see that NLP is outcome oriented, all techniques are aimed at finding solutions for a desired outcome and learning new appropriate behaviour patterns- both at conscious and unconscious levels- as required.
Much of my work as a life and business coach often consists in uncovering excellent behaviours already used by the client in some area of his or her life and in showing the person how to transfer these to other areas.
With NLP methodology, superior communication skills are learnt through practice in a relatively short period of time; the techniques are immediately applicable to life situations, be it at work, at home, in sport, relationships, etc.
NLP proposes that we learn through modeling. We can model others who have achieved excellence in their field, and we can model our successful behaviour in one field and transfer it to another area of our own life.
How often do we hear how good someone is at his/her job, but how poor he/she is in communicating with family members?
Personal and professional development, family relationships, time and stress management, formal studies, class-room teaching, conflict resolution, spiritual development, these are all areas where we can use more refined skills of communication.
I regard life coaching with NLP eminently suitable for anyone wishing to be happier, more successful and more effective in all areas of their lives.
